Sunday, 19th January, DMP & DSPCA Dog Friendly Hike at Tibradden and Cruagh Woods
Please read the event details fully before booking a place via Eventbrite.
The goals of this dog-friendly hike are to:
- Provide DSPCA shelter dogs with an opportunity to experience a public environment and increase their chances of finding a new home.
- Offer dog owners a chance to attend a public hike with their dogs and receive basic training.
- Provide all participants with an opportunity to enjoy a hike in the Dublin Mountains.
We will accommodate a maximum of 10 dogs.
- 5 spaces will be open to the public and their dogs.
- 5 spaces will be reserved for DSPCA dogs.
- Limited additional spaces for members of the public (you may not bring a dog) who are interested in meeting and potentially adopting a DSPCA dog.
Due to the nature of this event and our goal to help find new homes for shelter dogs, please only book a space if you are certain you can attend, as this may prevent someone who is serious about adopting a dog from attending.
If you plan to bring your own dog, be aware that spaces are very limited, and interest will be high. Please do not book unless you are sure you can attend, as this may prevent someone on the waitlist who is serious about attending from getting a spot.
We will stop along the route for basic training with all of the dogs. Please bring a long training lead, if possible, for recall training. We will have some extra available on the day.
We will include a segment on responsible dog ownership and protecting wildlife and livestock.
DSPCA dogs will be walked by DSPCA volunteers with the potential for prospective adopters to meet, walk and train with them on the day.
Route Details: This walk will be led by DMP Volunteer Rangers from Coillte’s Tibradden Wood across to Cruagh Wood. The walk will take in parts of the Slí na Sláinte route, the Mountain Access Route, the Dublin Mountains Way and the new Dublin Mountains Makeover Native Woodland trail. Route surfaces are a mix of gravel forest roads, wooden board walk and gravel walking trails.
If the morning is clear there will be stunning views to Dublin Bay, the Cooley Mountains and the Mournes.
Date: Sunday, 19th of January at 10:00.
Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours.
Distance: 5km approximately.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate due to incline and route surfaces.
Bring: Walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, water, snacks and poo bags.
Meeting point: Tibradden Overflow Car Park (drive to the very end of the carpark) at 09:50.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
Public Transport: No direct transport on Sundays. See TFI’s Journey Planner.
Parking is limited so please carpool where possible.
