21st December, Winter Solstice Hike with the DMP Volunteer Rangers

The hike will commence from Tibradden Forest. From there, we’ll trace the path of the Dublin Mountains Way, leading us to the historical Tibradden Cairn. Our next stop will be Fairy Castle before making our way to the Three Rock aiming to Ballyedmonduff Wedge Tomb in time to witness the breathtaking sunset over Dublin Bay. Following this, we’ll navigate back via the Two Rock.
Our return journey will bring us back to Tibradden, with an estimated arrival time of 19:00.
The hike route surfaces include footpaths, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.

Duration: 6 hours, approximately
Distance: 15km approximately, 500m of climb
Degree of difficulty: Moderate to strenuous
Bring: Walking boots, rain gear, warm layers, torch, food, snacks, hot drink and water. Plus a head torch.
Meeting point: Tibradden Forest at 13:00
Public Transport: Direct Route to Tibradden Wood with Local Link Kildare South Dublin Route SD4 from Tallaght but please note the last bus will have left before the walk finishes. See Timetables.

1st January - our traditional New Year's Day Hike from Shankill to Carrickgollogan with the DMP Volunteer Rangers

Description: Get your new year off to a flying start with this guided hike from Shankill to Carrickgollogan. The route will follow along the eastern section of the Dublin Mountains Way (DMW), taking in Rathmichael Wood, Carrickgollogan summit and the Lead Mine’s chimney. We will then return to Shankill via the DMW passing by a Fassaroe Cross. The route surfaces include, footpaths, county road, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.
Date: Wednesday, the 1st of January 2025 at 11:00.
Duration: 3 to 4 hours, approximately.
Distance: 12km approximately, 290m of climb.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate.
Bring: Walking boots, rain gear, warm layers, water, and lunch.
Meeting point: Brady's Pub at 10:45.
Public Transport: DART and Dublin Bus. See link below to TFI’s Journey Planner.
Parking: available at Brady’s Pub for €3, or free if you dine or drink at the bar afterwards. Alternative parking available at the Shankill Dart Station.

5th January -Hike from Marlay Park to Fairy Castle with DMP Volunteer Rangers - public transport friendly.

Join the DMP Volunteer Rangers who will lead this 12KM scenic hike in the Dublin Mountains, note this is a moderate to strenuous hike. The hike will commence from College Road Car Park at Marlay Park. From there, we’ll trace the path of the Wicklow and Dublin Mountains Way, leading us to the historical Fairy Castle.
Our return journey will bring us back to Marlay Park, with an estimated arrival time of 14:30. The hike route surfaces include county roads, footpaths, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.
Date: Sunday, 5th of January.
Duration: 4 hours, approximately.
Distance: 12km approximately, 410m of climb.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate to strenuous.
Bring: Walking boots, rain gear, warm layers, food, snacks, hot drink and water.
Meeting point: Marlay Park, College Road car park at 10:15.
